Prepositions of Place

Prepositions of place মূলত ব্যবহার করা হয় কোন কিছুর অবস্থান বোঝাতে। এ ধরনের কিছু Preposition হলো: at, on, in, while, during etc.

Prepositions of Direction

Prepositions of direction are often used to specify the path or direction of something or someone. Direction prepositions include: under, over, right, left, and so on.

এই প্রিপজিশনগুলো কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু কোথায় অবস্থিত (Place) অথবা কোন দিকে গতিশীল (Direction) তা নির্দেশ করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

১. Prepositions of Place (অবস্থান নির্দেশক)

কোনো কিছু কোথায় আছে তা বোঝাতে মূলত At, In এবং On ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Preposition	ব্যবহারের ক্ষেত্র	উদাহরণ (Examples)
At	নির্দিষ্ট বিন্দু বা ছোট স্থান বোঝাতে।	At the door, At the bus stop, At the top of the page.
In	কোনো আবদ্ধ জায়গা বা বড় এলাকা বোঝাতে।	In a box, In the room, In Dhaka, In the garden.
On	কোনো তলের (Surface) ওপর স্পর্শ করে থাকা বোঝাতে।	On the table, On the wall, On the floor.

অন্যান্য কিছু Place Prepositions:

Under: নিচে (স্পর্শ না করে নিচে থাকলে)। Example: The cat is under the table.
Over: উপরে (মাথার ওপর সরাসরি শূন্যে থাকলে)। Example: The plane flew over the house.
Between: দুইয়ের মাঝখানে। Example: He is sitting between Rahim and Karim.
Among: অনেকের মাঝখানে। Example: He was hidden among the trees.
Beside / Next to: পাশে। Example: Sit beside me.

২. Prepositions of Direction (দিক বা গতি নির্দেশক)

এই প্রিপজিশনগুলো মূলত গতির (Movement) দিক বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

To: কোনো নির্দিষ্ট গন্তব্যের দিকে বোঝাতে।
- Example: She is going to the office.
Towards: কোনো কিছুর দিকে (গন্তব্য নিশ্চিত নয়, শুধু দিক বোঝালে)।
- Example: He was walking towards the river.
Into: বাইরে থেকে ভেতরে প্রবেশ করা বোঝাতে।
- Example: He jumped into the swimming pool.
Onto: কোনো তলের ওপর উঠে আসা বোঝাতে।
- Example: The cat jumped onto the counter.
Across: একপাশ থেকে অন্যপাশে পার হওয়া বোঝাতে।
- Example: They walked across the bridge.
Through: কোনো কিছুর ভেতর দিয়ে পার হওয়া বোঝাতে।
- Example: The train passed through the tunnel.
Up / Down: উপরে বা নিচে যাওয়া বোঝাতে।
- Example: She ran up the stairs.
Off: কোনো কিছু থেকে দূরে বা নিচে পড়ে যাওয়া বোঝাতে।
- Example: He fell off the horse.

৩. সাধারণ বিভ্রান্তি ও সমাধান:

ক) In vs At:

বড় শহর বা দেশের ক্ষেত্রে In বসে। (In Bangladesh)
ছোট গ্রাম বা নির্দিষ্ট ঠিকানার ক্ষেত্রে At বসে। (At my office)

খ) In vs Into:

In স্থির অবস্থান বোঝায়। (He is in the room.)
Into গতিশীল অবস্থা বোঝায়। (He went into the room.)

গ) Above vs Over:

Over সাধারণত সরাসরি মাথার ওপর বা একপাশ থেকে অন্যপাশে গতি বোঝাতে বসে।
Above দিয়ে কেবল উচ্চতর অবস্থান বোঝানো হয় (সরাসরি মাথার ওপর না হলেও চলে)।
